Freddie: Break Free - Ballet Co. Laboratory

The stage is set for Ballet Co.Laboratory's Freddie: Break Free—a groundbreaking ballet that explores the life of rock 'n' roll's most iconic showman, Freddie Mercury.

Premiering April 10–12, 2026, at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Saint Paul, MN. This production, created by Ballet Co.Laboratory—a queer-founded, queer-led ballet organization— tells the life story of Freddie Mercury through dance and the music of Queen. The cast will feature 11 professional dancers, a 5-member Queen cover band, choral musicians, and community members living with HIV / AIDS. More than a biopic, this narrative ballet will piece together 19 of Queen's timeless hits to help tell the life story of Freddie, a multi-dimensional artist who not only changed the history of music, but also greatly impacted the lives of the queer community and those living with HIV/AIDS. Through three public performances, audiences will not only witness Freddie’s musical & medical journey, but will also experience a broader history of the AIDS epidemic.
