Mourning Speaker Hortman

As the apprehension of the suspected shooter ends the active threat, all of us in the LGBTQ+  and reproductive justice communities can focus on mourning the loss of a strong legislative ally, legend, and friend. 

Speaker emeritus Melissa Hortman was a champion for our community and worked with PFund to ensure our communities received funding to support our Trans+ community while other states’ leaders pulled back their support. Her leadership on this issue was critical and changed the lives of countless Minnesotans.

Representative Hortman’s assassination marks a profound loss for those that knew her personally and depended on her politically. It is also a stark reminder of the danger of hateful politics. In Melissa’s memory PFund Foundation’s board, staff, and community stands determined to uplift those most marginalized in our community and to match these dark times with light and with love.
